Committee Report to State Council

March 2020

The Education Committee met with 11 members present. The new online tool for chapters and committees to request CEU was discussed and presented. This will make the process more streamlined for chapters and committees requesting CEU. Documents are able to be electronically uploaded within the request form. The state conference was discussed briefly, but will be the focus of the May meeting as that will be the appropriate timeline as that project is scheduled for November. Tobin reviewed the various platforms for webinars researched and obtained approval for budget use to obtain a Zoom membership. This will allow webinars to be hosted. A sign in sheet was given for any members of the education committee or state council who are interested in participating in the beta test of the webinar series to sign up. The goal is to produce live webinars throughout the year to provide education and CEU opportunities to our members.

Emergency Care By The Bay

Once again California ENA’s collaboration with the San Diego Medical Society resulted in a stellar conference. Hosting emergency nurses, residents, and tenured medical staff at the Emergency Care by The Bay conference, held at the scenic Kona Kai Resort on November 8, 2018. The full-day conference was highlighted by the comical case studies presented by ENA’s very own nationally recognized ENA member Terry Foster, RN, from “Untold Stories of the ER”. Terry kept the audience laughing as he told about hilarious patient events with a disclaimer of “you just can’t make this stuff up, ya’ll”. The presentation became more somber and gripping as Dr. Kevin Menes shared his memories and stories of the night he worked as attending MD at Sunrise Hospital when a shooter opened fire at the Las Vegas concert arena, critically wounding hundreds of people. He described the minute-by-minute action and reaction that he and his fellow staff members employed to rapidly triage and treat hundreds of mass casualty gunshot victims. Vendors partnered with the ENA to present a variety of new and innovative treatments to the nurse and physician attendees during breaks in the day. In addition to so many great educational topics, the delicious meals and a wonderful sunset bonfire, hosted by the San Diego Chapter of ENA and Mercy Air, made this conference a real pleasure to attend. Many conference attendees stayed at the resort to enjoy the facility, then attended the state chapter meeting held on Nov. 9.
